Proudly sponsored by ClubMulwala and supported by many businesses and organisations throughout the community. Yarrawonga College P-12 currently offers many opportunities in leadership however a program that would develop high level leadership through commitment and teamwork to students in Year 10 and 11 was investigated. This is how the Kokoda Trail Leadership Program was inititiated. The College was already committed to numerous activities involving ANZAC day which included: student presentations at ANZAC dawn service, participation of leadership teams (SRC and Year 11) in the ANZAC Remembrance ceremonies at Mulwala, participation of the Year 12 group in the ANZAC Remembrance ceremony in Yarrawonga, students delivering the main address for Remembrance Day at Yarrawonga and the co-ordination and delivery of the whole school assemblies for Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day. The group of students selected are expected to boast a long term formal commitment to act as official ANZAC Ambassadors within the community and beyond to compliment the underlying principles of this important Australian tradition. They will be required to speak at forums and perform duties that will positively reflect on the ritual forged by these historic events. After securing ClubMulwala as the major sponsor and appointing Kokoda Spirit as the prefferred touring company, the inaugural Kokoda Trail Leadership Program, consisting of ten young men and women (comprising of eight students and two teachers) embarked on the experience of a life time “walking the Kokoda Trail” in September 2009. The Kokoda Trail Leadership Program operates on a bi-annual basis to meet with the College's continuous improvement model of operation. The group for 2011 have recently completed their trek with all returning safe and sound with plenty of stories and a new sense of the history of Kokoda. The next trek will be held in September 2013, with Information Nights and applications being sought from February of that year.
